Jerusalem Part 1

Our first day in Israel we visited Jerusalem. It is a town with about 4,000 years of history and way too much to see. One fascinating thing about Jerusalem is that people from three major world religions--Christianity, Judaism, Islam--are living side by side. Five times a day one hears the Muslim call to prayer and at the same time sees ultra-orthodox Jews walking down the street.  In order to fully appreciate the city, we had a tour guide take us around the major sites.

The old city of Jerusalem is still surrounded by its famed wall, with its nine gates, each one similar to this one.  We entered thru the Jaffa Gate.

The first place we visited was a protestant church in Jerusalem .
 It is the only one in the old city.

This room is remembered as where the Last Supper and Pentecost took place.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is built over the place where Christ was buried, which is within the structure above.

Behind dad is the Western Wall where you can find Jews praying.

The dude with the crazy muffin hat you see, is an ultra-mega-orthodox Jew.

This is a huge golden menorah that the Jews will place in the 3rd temple.  It is behind bullet-proof glass.
